Your Weekly Song Post: 'Lay It Down' by The Rubens (2011)

This week's song post goes to Australian indie-blues-soul-rock band The Rubens and their song Lay It Down. The Rubens are an indie-rock band hailing out of Menangle, NSW Australia, which was formed in February 2011, and consists of members Zaac Margin (guitar), Elliott Margin (vocals and keyboards), Sam Margin, (guitar and vocals), and Scott Baldwin (drums). I only discovered this band recently and really dig their sound and energy, and if you are keen on artists such as the Black Keys, or Cold War Kids then you will definitely like The Rubens. Lay It Down is one of their first single releases and I am stoked to hear more of their work! Also, be sure to check out this song and a few others at The Rubens' Unearthed Page HEREcheers!

Sneaks' Movie Reviews: 'Cave of Forgotten Dreams' (2010)

Movie: Cave of Forgotten Dreams (2010)
Director: Werner Herzog
Rating: 8/10 Stars ********

Wow! 32,000 year old cave art, take that Bible-thumpers! This is a doco about a cave that was discovered in Southern France in 1994 by archeologists, and which was preserved due to a landslide, and contains cave paintings that date as the oldest evidence of human civilization yet known. Check this movie out, it will blow your mind, if you have one of your own.

Your Weekly Song Post: 'The Worse It Gets' by Penguin Prison (2011)

This week's song post goes to New York-based indie-electro-pop act Penguin Prison, and his song The Worse It Gets. Penguin Prison is a solo-act consisting of Chris Glover from New York, who rose to prominence with a college band called The Smartest People at Bard, whose demos came to the attention of rapper Q-Tip and lead to a record deal under Universal in 2009. Glover ended up leaving the band after their record got little attention and began doing his own remixes and solo-work under the name of Penguin Prison. The Worse It Gets comes off of his debut self-titled studio album, which was released on October 18th, 2011. If you like what you've heard then you can head over to his website HERE, or his Last.FM page HERE

Sneaks' Movie Reviews: 'Bill Cunningham New York' (2010)

Director: Richard Press
Rating: 8/10 Stars ********
An interesting doco about Bill Cunningham, a life-long and dedicated photographer who has documented street and runway fashion from the 1960's to present day in New York City and Paris. Quite entertaining and the best part is that is real, and about real people, so check it out, especially if you are into fashion at all.

Sneaks' Movie Reviews: 'A Summer In Genoa' (2008)

Movie: A Summer In Genoa (2008)
Director: Michael Winterbottom
Rating: 7.0/10 Stars *******
An interesting, as well as sad movie about a father and two daughters who move to Genoa for a Summer 6 months after the mother/wife is killed in a car accident. The daughters and husband are all still dealing with the recent death and also trying to live on, and my favorite part of the movie is the fact that you get heaps of great shots and settings of Genoa, Italy, which is clearly one of those exotic and sunny Mediterranean cities of Italy. Check this movie out, even if just for the travel-show aspects, but expect some dramatic scenes and emotions.

Your Weekly Song Post: 'While You Talk' by Kill City Creeps (2011)

This week's post goes to Australian indie-rock band Kill City Creeps, and their song While You Talk. Kill City Creeps  originate out of Sydney, Australia and consists of members Daniel Darling (guitar and vocals),  Amy Yoshiko (guitar and vocals, Mon Cherie (drums), and Nina B (Organ). The group has a unique 60's-70's sound to them, and the organ definitely adds that psychedelic sound of bands like The Doors to their music. While You Talk is a single off of the group's EP 5 Tracker, which was released on October 28th, 2011. If you like what you've heard you can head over to their Unearthed page HERE, or their Facebook page HERE. I have been on holiday for the last week so haven't had as many posts but am looking to start them up again here as I have a few new songs to post and movies as well. I may even bring back some of the Oldies Rewind if I find enough time to do so, and so it is!

Sneaks' Movie Reviews: 'Adam's Apples (Adams æbler)' (2005)

Rating: 7.6/10 Stars *******'
Definitely not your ordinary movie, but in a good way. A neo-nazi is parolled to a small church in rural Norway, where he has to get along with a few other ex-cons and an eccentric minister who seems to be a bit out of touch with reality, and yet highly influential to the people he is responsible for. Check this one out if you want to see something different from the usual, it is a little bit strange, but worth watching once.

Your Weekly Song Post: 'Everyone Knows' by Messrs (2011)

This week's feature song goes to Australian indie-dance-electronica group Messrs, and their song Everyone Knows. Messrs (formerly The Touch) are a five-piece indie-dance-pop group from Adelaide, Australia, who have been active for a few years now and consists of members Josh (vocals and percussion),  Shane (guitar, synths, vocals),  Chad (drums),  Justin (guitar, synths), and Craig (bass guitar). Everyone Knows is single off of their latest EP of the same name, which was released on October 7th, 2011 and contains a few different mixes of the song. I really dig their sound, and they are similar to other Australian indie-pop-electro acts such as Strange Talk, Gold Fields, and Cut Copy...so if you like any of those acts you are sure to like Messrs. If you like you have heard here then be sure to visit their Unearthed page HERE for info and free mp3 download, or you can also check out their Facebook page HERE
