DJ Akhu's Movie Reviews: 'Topkapi" (1964)

Director: Jules Dassin
Rating: 9/10 Stars *********
Topkapi is an awesome/classic jewel thief movie because it was one of the first of its kind (as far as I am aware)! A group professional thieves takes on a the challenge of stealing a valuable knife from one of Turkey's big museums. Along the way they recruit the unlikely but likable Peter Ustinov, and a not so serious adventure begins. Great shots of Istanbul in the 1960's, makes me want to visit.

Sneaks' Movie Reviews: 'Sex and the Single Girl' (1964)

Movie: Sex and the Single Girl (1964)
Director: Richard Quine
Rating: 8/10 Stars ********
Great Movie! A 60's era romantic comedy, with little to no seriousness to it, starring Tony Curtis, Henry Fonda, and Natalie Wood. A young pHD female psychologist gets pursued and scammed by a tabloid-magazine writer who is looking for a juicy dirt-story to publish about her, however he finds himself in love with this pretty psychologist and a lot of misunderstandings ensue. Check this one out if you like goofy old romantic comedies.

Sneaks' Movie Reviews: 'The Americanization of Emily' (1964)

Director: Arthur Hiller
Rating: 8.0/10 Stars ********
An interesting and funny movie about a Navy-man (Garner) who is given the ludicrous task by his Admiral of photographing the first body on Omaha beach (on D-Day) to give good press to the Navy and thus avoid the splitting of the Navy and Air-Force. Also a love story in this one between Garner and Andrews which keeps it entertaining.

They Call Them Classics: 'Wooden Heart' by Elvis Presley (1964)

Welcome to another issue of They Call Them Classics (weekly edition), and this weeks shuffle result is the 1964 release song Wooden Heart by The King Of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley. I find it funny that I have had this vlog up for over a year now and this is the first Elvis song to show up, and here it is. Wooden Heart (Muss I Denn) first appeared in the 1960 Elvis Presley film G.I. Blues and it was a #1 hit in the UK for 6 weeks there before it was ever released in the USA. It was released in the USA in 1964 on the B-side of  Blue Christmas,
and a cover version was released by Joe Dowell in 1961 which reached #1 in the US too. So there is this weeks issue, stay tuned for more, its always a random result, well mostly anyway.

Brief Movie Review for "Night of the Iguana" (1964)

4/5 Stars ****
Good and goofy movie! The character interactions (and the quality actors) are the key to this movie (as with most), but it really focuses on the characters and what seemed like mostly realistic emotional and not always logical way of dealing with the challenges in their lives. Richard Burton's character is classic, actually the first of his movies I've seen, and surprised he never got any James Bond roles. Definitely not your run-of-the-mill film or plot, so check it out, at least you'll get something different from the typical formulas, that is unless you are a formula person. Great poem there to btw.
