Under Neon Movie Reviews: 'Fright Night' (1985)

Movie: Fright Night
Year: 1985
Rating: 10/10 Stars **********
Wowsers!!! I waited entirely too long to finally watch this 80s vampire classic! Teenaged Charlie Brewster gets in trouble with his new neighbor Jerry Dandridge, after discovering that Jerry is actually a vampire. Its not a serious movie, but it tries to be at some points, and then doesn't at others. Definitely, if you are a vampire movie fan you have to see this one, its an 80s  staple, and they made a remake, so don't mistake it for the original please.

Another cheesy 80s horror flick. I remember watching when I was about 9 years old and being a bit freaked out by the imagery, and freaky arse little demon people, but once again not scary at all no, but don't let your kids watch this. If you dig 80s b-movie horror, you have to check this one out.

Interesting movie, with more Canadian actors/actresses that I had no idea were actually Canadian to begin with, that must be part of my American programming, to just figure that any good new musician or actor must be American, to usually find out they are actually aren't, which is probably why they have talent. Anyways, this one is about a small Nova Scotia town, some bored and lonely people who find ways to create drama in their lives and relationships despite the quaintness of their rural lifestyles. Kind of slow, but worth watching once.

Wowsers! This one was entirely worse than the 1st, but so good in the 80s cheesy way. I must say, I especially enjoyed the super-critter at the end, such a standard formulaic device, and so quintessentially 80s. I thought this one was not so great, til I saw the 3rd one, so this one in retrospect is actually pretty good, and having the Playboy centerfold cameo in a tight leather outfit doesn't hurt either. Check this one out if you love cheesy 80s horror/sci-fi.
