Akhu's Movie Reviews: 'Some Like It Hot' (1959)
Some Like It Hot has quite the star-studded cast, including Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis, and Marilyn Monroe. A comedy about 2 musicians (Lemmon and Curtis) during the prohibition era who unintentionally witness the Valentine's Day massacre and have to flee to Florida (from Chicago) dressed as women, to blend into the all-female band they land with to escape the mob boss who wants them dead. A good old 1959 comedy to watch when you are in the mood for something cheery. This is probably my favorite Marilyn Monroe and Jack Lemmon movie. Definitely check this one out no matter who you are, it is a classic with classic all American actors, don't miss out.

DJ Akhu's Daily Shuffle: 'Paradise Circus' by Massive Attack (2010)
Year: 2010
Okay, so after watching the first few episodes of BBC TV drama series Luther (starring the brilliant Idris Elba), I had to get the intro theme song. This is that song, so if you haven't checked out that intro or the show I recommend you do.

Akhu's Movie Reviews: "The High Cost of Living" (2011)
This is not a comedy for those who think that because it has Zach Braff in it that its going to be like Scrubs or something. A Montreal drug dealer is involved in a hit and run accident where he accidentally runs down a pregnant woman who as a result of the accident loses her baby, while she herself survives. The dealer (Braff) discovers that she lives, and that he is responsible for the death of the baby, and secretly tries to help the woman without her knowing that he was the hit and run driver. An intense movie.

Akhu's Movie Reviews: 'Dick' (1999)
Movie: Dick
A silly comedy loosely based on historic events and characters surrounding the Nixon Watergate scandal in the early 1970s. A pair of unwitting teenage girls find themselves in the midst of the White House and the scandal that would bring down the Nixon administration. If you are looking for something totally un-serious and goofy then this might be a movie to watch, but don't expect much.

Akhu's Movie Reviews: 'Bar El Chino' (2003)
Movie: Bar El Chino
Year: 2003
My Rating: 10/10 Stars ********** Wow, this was a very good movie! One of the few I will give the full 5 star rating on here too. This is a movie about documentary film makers in Argentina, a love story surrounding the making and resurrection of the documentary about a local and legendary Argentenian bar called El Chino. Makes me want to visit that bar. Check this movie out, but note it is in Spanish and thus sub-titled for non-spanish speakers.

Akhu's Movie Reviews: 'The Howling' (1981)
Movie: The Howling
Year: 1981
My Rating: 5.8/10 Stars ****** This movie was so not scary at all, and the best part about it I suppose are the werewolf transformation scenes, being good special effects for 1981, and actually looks more real than the crappy computer-generated graphics they have these days. John Sayles did screenwriter for this, so it is redeemed some, but I don't know if it is even worth watching even if you are werewolf movie fan.

Akhu's Movie Reviews: 'Lunopolis' (2009)
My Rating: 6.3/10 Stars ******
This was well done for a fake-documentary or as they say 'mockumentary', almost as good as a real one would be. A group of independent mystery enthusiasts decide to investigate the location of a supposed base for Moon People to discover a time machine and that it the so-called hoax is actually real.

DJ Ahku's Daily Shuffle: 'Footsteps' by Nick Gilder (1985)
Hi there, DJ Purple Sneakers here, I've decided I'm going to do a little less writing on some of my music posts but do more of them. That way I can get more exposure for more bands and artists, and you can look them up yourself to buy their songs/albums if you like. These posts will be old and new and music. I will still do a weekly music post, with info about the artist as well so watch this space for those to appear...without further ado, here is today's music pick:

DJ Ahku's Movie Reviews: 'Take Me Home Tonight' (2011)
Movie: Take Me Home Tonight (2011)
My Rating: 5.5/10 Stars *****'
A comedy flick about young people in the 80's starring Topher Grace and Anna Faris. This one has lots of great 80s music (so if you like 80s music you will enjoy), partying, hookin up, and having trouble with being 'responsible young adults' in the 80s. Check this one out if you like 80s music, and if you like movies that revisit the 80s in general, but don't expect much as it is basically a comedy party flick reminiscent of such movies as Better Off Dead, Weekend at Bernies, or even Pretty In Pink.
