Under Neon Movie Reviews: "Hobo with a Shotgun" (2011)
Movie: Hobo With a Shotgun
Year: 2011
Rating: 2/5 Stars **
Wow, what a terrible bunch of excessive graphic adolescent violence and hubris. But if you love that kind of sh*t you will love this b-flick. You will spend the whole movie waiting for Arnie, Bruce, or Sylvester to show up and save the day 80s style and start tearing heads off, but alas its all up to one old hobo and his trusty pump shotgun. Expect heaps of gratuitous over the top graphic violence, guts, blood, and rampage. Oh yeah, and the soundtrack is pretty cool too.

Under Neon Movie Reviews: 'Contagion' (2011)
Movie: Contagion
Year: 2011
Rating: 7/10 Stars *******
The epidemic movies have sort of formed their own "epidemic thriller" genre over the years, and this one reminds me a lot of so many others (e.g. 'Outbreak). The cast is star-studded, which makes it more interesting and it is worth watching. It is also believable to an extent, in terms of the kinds of things that would happen if such an epidemic (similar to the smallpox epidemics that wiped out the Americas post-Columbus) were to spring up as the self-serving rich and powerful run for the hills only to save themselves whilst leaving the rest of humanity behind to die. Sounds kind of similar to those old Sumerian and biblical deluge stories, but with plague instead of floods.

Under Neon Movie Review: 'The Ides of March' (2011)
Movie: The Ides of March
Year: 2011
Rating: 8/10 Stars ********
Great cast including Clooney, Gosling, Hoffman, Tomei, and more... and quite a good movie, and there is no doubt in my mind that the cut-throat nature of politics being exposed by this movie is about as close to reality as it gets. Gosling is the young campaign manager for up and coming Clooney, and he is about to learn his first big lesson about the dirty truth of politics in America. Definitely check this one out!

Under Neon Movie Reviews: 'The Guard' (2011)
Movie: The Guard
Year: 2011
Rating: 7/10 Stars *******
This was actually quite a funny and good action-comedy flick. A sarcastic rural Irish cop finds himself in the middle of an international drug smuggling operation when the FBI come through his small town. I always appreciate Don Cheadle's acting range, as he has the ability to add that extra level to any movie he is in. Check it out, its a good mix of action, drama, and comedy.

Akhu's Movie Reviews: 'Paul' (2011)
Movie: Paul
This was actually funny, although the main comical effect in the movie is the colorful use of cuss-words. I don't know how I could doubt a Pegg-Frost duo movie, but I must admit I had my doubts after seeing the preview. Paul is an ET on the run from the government, and he hitches a ride with 2 unwitting British UFO enthusiasts (Pegg and Frost). Check it out, it actually is funny and worth watching once.

Ahhu's Movie Reviews: 'Tree of Life' (2011)
Not what I expected, but I suppose that is the normal response for most who watch it. Great cinematography with lots of dream-like scenes, starring Brad Pitt and Sean Penn. Do not expect a normal movie here, it is anything but formulaic, but it is good in its own right. Hard to follow at times, and you may get lost as in a dream, but it seems to have something to do with nostalgic memories, human relationships, and heaven and the potential of an afterlife?? Gets me! Check it out if you are feeling adventurous.

Akhu's Movie Reviews: 'Bride Flight' (2011)
Quite a good and interesting Dutch movie about a group of young Dutch expatriates looking for a new life and prosperity in New Zealand. A close-knit group of young Dutch settlers start out on a competitive flight to NZ, some of the young women are to be married to lonely farmers there, and some are young men, one of whom fathers a child with one woman, whilst having romance with another. Another of the couples discovers she is infertile and secretly agrees to adopt the out-of-wedlock child of the other woman and it just gets complicated so you will have to watch it. Good story, and quality acting.

Akhu's Movie Reviews: "The High Cost of Living" (2011)
This is not a comedy for those who think that because it has Zach Braff in it that its going to be like Scrubs or something. A Montreal drug dealer is involved in a hit and run accident where he accidentally runs down a pregnant woman who as a result of the accident loses her baby, while she herself survives. The dealer (Braff) discovers that she lives, and that he is responsible for the death of the baby, and secretly tries to help the woman without her knowing that he was the hit and run driver. An intense movie.

DJ Ahku's Movie Reviews: 'Take Me Home Tonight' (2011)
Movie: Take Me Home Tonight (2011)
My Rating: 5.5/10 Stars *****'
A comedy flick about young people in the 80's starring Topher Grace and Anna Faris. This one has lots of great 80s music (so if you like 80s music you will enjoy), partying, hookin up, and having trouble with being 'responsible young adults' in the 80s. Check this one out if you like 80s music, and if you like movies that revisit the 80s in general, but don't expect much as it is basically a comedy party flick reminiscent of such movies as Better Off Dead, Weekend at Bernies, or even Pretty In Pink.

DJ Akhu's Movie Reviews: 'Happythankyoumoreplease' (2011)
Movie: Happythankyoumoreplease
Sneaks' Rating: 5.9/10 Stars *****'
This was a bit of a different/oddball movie about a group of young people in New York City. Main character randomly meets the girl of his dreams on the street, the same day he gets rejected again for a script he wrote, and he ends up helping a kid who gets lost on the metro and doesn't want to go back to his foster family. Side stories are also a bit strange/have an element of creep to them in my opinion (maybe that was just me?)...check it out if your bored.
