Your Weekly Song Post: 'The Worse It Gets' by Penguin Prison (2011)
This week's song post goes to New York-based indie-electro-pop act Penguin Prison, and his song The Worse It Gets. Penguin Prison is a solo-act consisting of Chris Glover from New York, who rose to prominence with a college band called The Smartest People at Bard, whose demos came to the attention of rapper Q-Tip and lead to a record deal under Universal in 2009. Glover ended up leaving the band after their record got little attention and began doing his own remixes and solo-work under the name of Penguin Prison. The Worse It Gets comes off of his debut self-titled studio album, which was released on October 18th, 2011. If you like what you've heard then you can head over to his website HERE, or his Last.FM page HERE.

Your Weekly Song Post: 'Everyone Knows' by Messrs (2011)
This week's feature song goes to Australian indie-dance-electronica group Messrs, and their song Everyone Knows. Messrs (formerly The Touch) are a five-piece indie-dance-pop group from Adelaide, Australia, who have been active for a few years now and consists of members Josh (vocals and percussion), Shane (guitar, synths, vocals), Chad (drums), Justin (guitar, synths), and Craig (bass guitar). Everyone Knows is single off of their latest EP of the same name, which was released on October 7th, 2011 and contains a few different mixes of the song. I really dig their sound, and they are similar to other Australian indie-pop-electro acts such as Strange Talk, Gold Fields, and Cut Copy...so if you like any of those acts you are sure to like Messrs. If you like you have heard here then be sure to visit their Unearthed page HERE for info and free mp3 download, or you can also check out their Facebook page HERE.

Your Daily Track: 'Dancing On My Grave' by Ghostland Observatory (2010)
Today's feature daily track goes to American indie-electro-dance duo Ghostland Observatory and their song Dancing On My Grave. As you may have already noticed, I am a big indie-electro/indie-dance fan, and I discovered this group recently and found that the singer reminds me very much of the vocals of Freddie Mercury. Now those vocals, and the modern indie-electro sound mixed are just unstoppable, and so it is I am presenting this song here today to you all ;-) Ghostland Observatory consists of duo Aaron Kyle Behrens (vocals) and Thomas Ross Turner (drums and synth), who originate out of Austin, Texas, USA, and who have been active on the music scene circa 2004. Dancing On My Grave can be found on their Robotique Majestique album, which was released in 2008. Listen to the song and tell me it doesn't sound like Freddie Mercury...do it now! If you like what you hear you can check out more at their MySpace page HERE.

Your Daily Feature: 'Run' by Elke (2010)
Today's daily feature track is called Run, and its by Australian indie-electro band Elke. Elke, which consists of members Zack, Joel, Dave, Jim, and Jesse have been making music together since 2007. They originate out of the Brisbane, Queensland region of Australia, and they in my opinion they are severely under-rated, and I find it shocking that they haven't been signed by a major label. This band also operates as the band Dolphins, which does mostly indie-surfie style rock, which is also incredible stuff that I recommend checking out! Run comes off of the groups latest EP release simply A and B. You can check out most if not all of that EP at their Soundcloud site HERE, and if you just want some more artist info and such then head over to their website HERE. Run by elkeband

Cut Copy are fresh out of Melbourne, Victoria (Australia) and consists of members Dan Whitford (vocals, keyboards, and guitar), Tim Hoey (bass guitar and sampler), and Mitchell Scott (drums). It all began with Dan Whitford who is both a DJ and a graphic designer, and in fact Whitford released the first single and EP on his own before he recruited the other band members that comprise the band today. I have had the privilege of seen Cut Copy live on two occasions, and I highly recommend checking them out live if you ever get this chance, a very good show. Today's Feature Song is I Can Show You, by Australian indie-electro-pop duo Tim and Jean. Tim and Jean are Tim Ayre and Jean Capotorto who come out of Perth, Western Australia. They were later then selected to by that radio station to play at the Parklife Festival. They have not yet released an official album or EP, but they have played internationally and in America when they were a supporting act for Moby. They do sound a bit like Passion Pit, especially the keyboard style they play in this song, so if you are a Passion Pit fan you will probably dig the musical styles of Tim and Jean. Check it!

Song for November 29th, 2010: "Take Me Over" by Cut Copy
Today's song is...Take Me Over, by Australian indie-synth-pop group Cut Copy. Cut Copy originate in Melbourne, Victoria (Australia) and consists of Dan Whitford (vocals, keyboards, and guitar), Tim Hoey (bass guitar and sampler), and Mitchell Scott (drums). Cut Copy started out in 2001 with Dan Whitford who is both a DJ and a graphic designer, and in fact Whitford released the first single and EP on his own before he recruited the other band members that comprise the band today. I have had the privilege of seen Cut Copy live on two occasions, and I highly recommend checking them out live if you ever get this chance, a very good show. Take Me Over is the the second single release from their upcoming third studio album Zonoscope, which is set to be released in full on February 8th, 2011. Both of these singles are quite good in my opinion which bodes well for the album (although it should also be noted that the band has stated there may be different final versions of these singles appearing on the actual album upon its release), although I would be pleasantly surprised if they could out do their 2008 In Ghost Colours album, which I also highly recommend checking out if you like this one. Paste!

Song of the Day for July 31st, 2010
And the song for today is....Where I'm Going, by Aussie synth-pop band Cut Copy. Now, I am not sure if Where I'm Going is the first song off of their new album (TBA in 2011), or if is being released as a single, but its a goodie for sure, and it can be downloaded free in mp3 format at their website if you join their email list. Go out and pick yourself up a copy (no pun) of their In Ghost Colours album (released in 2008), which I would personally sum up as a mix between Duran Duran and Radiohead. Enjoy one of my top fav bands!

And the "Hot New Music" song of the day is....
...Don't Be on With Her, by by Aussie electro-pop group Miami Horror. Miami Horror are based in Melbourne Australia, and Don't Be on With Her comes off of their Bravado EP. I have made a previous post of another song of theirs so look to it for further info, or try wikipedia. Also, note how well they have captured the 80's feel, they even got the film style down to the 80's/70's visual themes and styles, not to mention the synth. Enjoy!

VJ Samsonite's "Hot New Music" song of the day is....
...Orange X, by Aussie alternative indie rock band The Seabellies. The Seabellies come at us out of Sydney, yes you heard correctly, another good rock band from the Sunny Down-unda,' fackin' oath maite! Wikipedia states that they are also based out beautiful Newcastle, and New South Wales in general, so I guess they claim the whole state as their home-base, fair enough. The Seabellies formed in 2006, and released a 6-track EP in 2007. Orange X is a single just released in 2010. The band consists of 6 members and as you can hear they incorporate some electronica/electro into their sound (as many of the bands of the moment do). I personally haven't heard their other tracks, but I dig this one, so here it is. Big ups yoself!

VJ Samsonite's "Hot New Music" song of the day is....
...Little Secrets, by US electronica band Passion Pit. Passion Pit come at us out of Cambridge, Massachusetts and formed in 2007. The group consists of Michael Angelakos (lead vocals/keyboards), Ian Hultquist (keyboards/guitar), Ayad Al Adhamy (synth), Jeff Apruzzese (bass) and Nate Donmoyer (on da drums). According to wikipedia, the name is derived from slang that was used to describe drive-in movie theaters as "passion pits," due to teenage hancky-pancky that tends to go on there. Passion Pit have released an EP and one full-length studio album. Little Secrets comes off of their album titled Manners (released in May 2009). Passion Pit definitely have a unique sound and electronic style to their music that makes them stand out a bit in that realm where so many bands tend to sound, how does one say "same same, but different." There are also such a ridiculous number of remixes by so many other dj's and groups out there that it can be a chore just to sort through it all to find the original mixes. Bloody volcanoes!

VJ Samsonite's "Hot New Music" song of the day is....
...Mongrel Heart, by American indie-rock-electro band the Broken Bells. That's right, I actually have something from an American group on here, (holy craplola!) so few and far in between these days, its almost like America is stuck perpetually in 2004 or something, never to change again or allow fresh new creative energy to flow, unless you count Pop and Pop-Hop. Back to the band of mention, the Broken Bells consist of artist/producer Danger Mouse (aka Brian Burton), and James Mercer (also lead-singer and guitarist for Portland (OR) based group The Shins. Now, I haven't had the chance to really sit down and listen to this album, but I am impressed with this song and what I have heard by them thus far. Mongrel Heart comes off of their one and only studio album by the same name. They certainly have a unique sound and this song blends together many elements of music which seems to be the go these days. Definitely check this band out. AHHHH!
