Feature Song of the Day = 'I Can Show You' by Tim and Jean (2010)

Today's Feature Song is I Can Show You, by Australian indie-electro-pop duo Tim and Jean. Tim and Jean are Tim Ayre and Jean Capotorto who come out of Perth, Western Australia. They started up a MySpace page and ended up entering Triple J's Unearthed High School competition for unsigned bands, in which they made it to the finals with their song Come Around. They were later then selected to by that radio station to play at the Parklife Festival. They have not yet released an official album or EP, but they have played internationally and in America when they were a supporting act for Moby. If you like what you hear on this post then go check out their MySpace page HERE for more songs and band info, or you can also check out their Unearthed page HERE which includes a free and legal 128kbps-mp3 download of their song Come Around (which is also available for purchase at HQ in the ITunes store. They do sound a bit like Passion Pit, especially the keyboard style they play in this song, so if you are a Passion Pit fan you will probably dig the musical styles of Tim and Jean. Check it!

And the song is......Burn Bridges, by 3 piece Aussie rock band The Grates. The Grates come out of Brisbane, Australia and consist of Patience Hodgson as vocals, John Patterson on guitar, and Alana Skyring on drums. The Grates are known for their highly energetic songs and live shows and were formed back in 2002. Since 2002 they have released 6 EP's and 2 full length studio albums with a 3rd coming out soon. Burn Bridges was released in Australia back in June of 2008, and was the first single release off of their 2nd full length album titled Teeth Lost, Hearts Won. It reached #34 on the ABC's Triple J Hottest 100 for that year. Check em out, and see what you think.

And the "Hot New Music" song of the day is....

...You've Changed, by Australian singer/songwriter Sia (short for Sia Furler). Sia arises out of Adelaide in South Australia, and has been classified by wikipedia as an acid-jazz/pop/trip-hop artist, so she must have quite a range. I personally am not that familiar with her work, but she has also worked with other acts, such as Zero 7 which would classify her in the trippy genre for sure. She has produced 3 studio albums and You've Changed comes off of her We Are Born album, just released this month of June 2010..now where can I get myself one of them panda hats??

VJ Samsonite's "Hot New Music" song of the day is....

...Mexican Mavis, by Aussie folk-rock collaboration Boy and Bear. Boy and Bear (formerly known as Dave Hosking), are a Sydney-based band built on the collaboration of three front men from separate bands. Mexican Mavis is a single and was released in October of 2009. There is not much info out there about them as they are a collaboration, but you can go HERE to see their myspace page and download the free mp3 of this song on that same page. Woot!

VJ Samsonite's "Hot New Music" song of the day is....

...Hurt Me, by Aussie-Indie group The Jezabels. The Jezabels are a four-piece group, and they formed after meeting at the University of Sydney (that's my old Uni!, woot woot!). They are fairly new group and have thus far only released two EPs, the first titled The Man is Dead (released in February 2009), and the second titled She's So Hard (released in November of 2009). Hurt Me is the first single coming off of She's So Hard, and features some keyboard/piano parts along with ambient guitar bits by Samuel Lockwood, and with seductive vocals by Hayley Mary. Do enjoy this one, its a little dark, but it is one of those songs that will grow on you. Check it!

VJ Samsonite's "Hot New Music" song of the day is....

...Saturday Night, by Aussie artist Matt Van Schie (pronounced Matt Van Ski). Matt Van Schie is also the vocals/bass in Sydney electro-pop band Van She who were formed in 2005 (and whom I would also highly recommend everyone give a listen to). This song reminds me of many old 80's synth-pop songs but holds its own elements in this new wave of electro-pop which is upon now upon us. Perhaps I will have to post some Van She in the future, although much of their music is about 4-5 yrs old already, my how the time flies!

VJ Samsonite's "Hot New Music" song of the day is....

..."The King and All Of His Men," by U.K. artist Wolf Gang. Now, due to having such a common name from history it is a bit of a pain to find any info on this specific artist, as you can imagine you have lots of Wolf Gang's, a few different bands named Wolfgang with or without a space, but you can find them on myspace when you search their name and this song. This song came out in October 2009, and it has an interesting sound which makes it unique, you'll just have to listen to it, it is quite catchy. And that's all he said...

VJ Samsonite's "Hot New Music" song of the day is....

..."Flippers," by Aussie electro-pop band Art Vs. Science. Now, this song was on the Triple J Hottest 100 of 2008, so it is not super-new or anything, but it was good enough to mention here, and this is my vlog, so there! Art Vs. Science are from Sydney Australia (lots of cool new bands coming out of Sydney and Melbourne these days) where the Sun always shines and the beer flows like wine. This song has an awesome beat, and the whole flippers theme reminds me of Aussie's diving and the Great Barrier Reef with their flippers masks and air-tanks, whether its meant to or not, that is the theme of the song after all. I was watching a movie at a cinema in Melbourne a few months ago, and I also saw this song featured on an anti-gambling advert, which was actually quite clever "Pokies" TV spot | Problem Gambling. They have been nominated for some awards (can't be bothered to look it all up right now) and their song "Parlez Vous Francais," was ranked number 2 on the Triple J Hottest 100 of 2009. The video posted here is a live versio of "Flippers" as I couldn't locate the actual music video on youtube. Check it:
