Feature Song of the Day = 'Got No Charm' by The Words
Today's song is...Got No Charm, by Australian alternative-rock band The Words. The Words come out of Bunbury, in Western Australia, and consists of members Ben Macri (Lead Vocals, Guitars), Clint Macri (Guitars, Backing Vocals), Dylan Macri (Guitars), and Ryan Mcdonnell (Drums, Percussion). Got No Charm comes off of their 2008 debut EP titled Running In a Maze, which is available on ITunes and Amazon, but if you want a lower quality free and legal mp3 download of this song (or a couple others) you can head over to their Unearthed page HERE, or just check out their Myspace page HERE for more info. Now, I am not for certain but their musical style reminds me personally of a mix of Third Eye Blind and Counting Crows, but I am referring to just a few elements in a few of their songs as they clearly have their own energy and unique sound. Check it!

Song of the Day for December 25th, 2010: 'Westfield' by The Salvadors
Today's song is...Westfield, by Adelaide based Australian indie-pop group The Salvadors. The Salvadors consist of first names only Tom ( vocals/guitar), Eddy (guitar), Jeff (bass guitar), Eugine (drums), and Cat (keyboards). The Salvadors certainly are making waves in Oz, and I recommend you check out this song as well as their others, which incidentally are available on ITunes and Amazon right now. Westfield comes off of their Misspent Youth Ep
, which was released in November 2009. You will have to go to their Unearthed Page HERE to listen to this song and note that is still available as a free and legal MP3 download there. Also be sure to check out their website HERE. Merry Christmas!

Song for November 16th, 2010: "Girl" by Dolphins
The song for today is...Girl, by 3-piece Australian surf-garage-rock band Dolphins. Dolphins is a side project of the Gold Coast based indie-electro band Elke, consisting of band members Zack, Joel, and Jesse from that very same band. They call themselves a "band for the summer", which they no doubt live up to. I personally really like all of the musical works of Elke, and so I am stoked to hear them continuing to come up with new works, including side-projects such as Dolphins. In my opinion they are a highly under-rated band and its time they got some serious radio-play!! For more info on this band you can check out their website HERE where you can listen to/download a free mp3 of this very song and more. Also be sure to check out their myspace page HERE, and their Elke unearthed page HERE. Also, do note that you can find Elke's Blue Dream Lover EP for purchase on itunes in the US store, and if you are in Australia you can probably get more but I wouldn't know as I am limited to the US store thanks to location, itunes seriously needs to change that but I suppose it has to do with trade agreements or something like that. Enjoy Dolphins!

Song of the Day for September 30th, 2010: "Rest" by The Temper Trap
And the song of the day is....Rest by the Temper Trap. I heard this song being played on a diet coke commercial yesterday, kind of strange, but I guess that's how it goes in the music biz. The Temper Trap are an alternative-rock band from Melbourne Australia, yet another Melbourne based band that is up and coming in a big way. No doubt that this album, titled Conditions (released in June or 2009) was a great one, but I just find it interesting to see which bands make it big and end up getting press and which ones don't despite being just as good if not better. The album reached #175 on the Billboard Top 200 albums in 2009, and it peaked at #25 on the UK Albums Chart. Now generally I like to post songs and bands that aren't all that well known, but I have to give props to Melbourne bands as I lived there for 2 years and heard heaps of amazing music, and have managed to stay somewhat connected thanks to Triple J online radio. That said, enjoy the song and definitely take some time out to check out the whole album. Also, one quick note, the song doesn't actually start up til about 15 seconds into it, so if audio doesn't seem to working its because there is a pause at the beginning of this track.

Song of the Day for September 16th, 2010: "In the Fire" by Mammoth Logic
And the song is...In the Fire by South Australian electronica duo Mammoth Logic. Now I know that I just posted one by them last week, but I was so impressed by their sound that I had to post another one straight away, so there. Mammoth Logic consists of Dave Crowe & Reid Jones, and they come out of the city of Adelaide, in South Australia. The electronic duo have been described as a mix of 'futuristic pop' with 'French-electro' with post-punk-rock, which is quite a mix indeed. This song came out just in the past few months of this year (2010), and they are set to release an album, so keep your eyes peeled for that. If you like the song then you should take note that it is currently available as a free MP3 download at this link here. Hasta Mañana!

She has already shared the stage with big-time acts such as Talib Kweli, The Hilltop Hoods, Dilated Peoples, and more...and one can tell that she has "it," whatever "it" is. Song of the Day for August 31st, 2010: "Climbing Walls," by Strange Talk
And the song is....Climbing Walls, by Australian indie-pop band Strange Talk. Strange Talk were formed just this year in February and they come out of Melbourne, Victoria in the Land Down Under. Members are Stephen Docker (vocals), Gerard Sidhu (bass guitar), Travis Constable (drums), and Gillan Gregory (guitar). This is the only song I have heard by them thus far, and I reckon they sound a bit like another Melbourne band named Cut Copy, and also a little bit like Sydney band Empire of the Sun. Also the mp3 is available for free download at this very link. That is a good thing by the way ;-)

Song of the Day for August 2, 2010
And the song is...Heads Will Roll, by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are an American indie rock band from NYC, and have been around since the year 2000. The band consists of 3 primary members as Karen O (vocals/piano), Nick Zinner (guitars and keyboards) and Brian Chase (drums). Heads Will Roll is the 2nd track off of their latest album titled It's Blitz, which was released last year in March of 2009. This song has a bit of a dance/house feel to it; the album received good reviews, and Rhapsody (online music service) called it the 12th best album of 2009. So check em out, I reckon they are a bit under-rated.

The Song of the DAY!
And the song is...Noiseless, by another Aussie indie band called Stunning in Red. Stunning in Red, like yesterday's artist also originate out of Perth, in Western Australia. They say that Perth is technically the most geographically isolated city in the world, there's a great fact for your trivia night! The band consists of 4 members, and they have produced an EP called Delaway Field, that is meant to be released in the coming few months. Now, once again youtube does not have this song on their database so you will once again have to go to the band's myspace page here to listen to this song and see what you think. Enjoy Stunning in Red!

And the song of the day is....
...Come With Me, by Swedish electronica artist CEO. CEO is actually a new project by Eric Berglund of his other electronica group named the Tough Alliance. Now I know I have been a bit slack as of late with the new music "songs of the day," but I reckon nobody really reads this vlog/blog yet so who gives a shart. Pues nada...CEO comes out of Gothenburg, Sweden and Berglund was in another group (as I just mentioned), or I should say a duo called The Tough Alliance. Come With Me is a new single and was just released in June 2010.
