Song of the Day for December 16th, 2010: 'Love Song' by Maoli

Today's song is....Love Song, by Hawaiian Island music group Maoli. Maoli have been active on the Hawaiian music scene since 2005 or so. They are based out of the island of Maui, where the band was founded by Glenn Awong (lead vocalist, guitarist, and song-writer), and includes members Corey Lum (vocals, guitar), Hubert Kaina (vocals, keyboards), Kakana Akiu-Corpuz (bass guitar), and Matthew Casil (drums). I am told that 'Maoli' means 'Native' in the Hawaiian language, and all the band-members grew up in Hawaii, and thus the name of their band. Love Song comes off of their recently released second studio album titled Rock Easy, which was just released in August, 2010 and is now available on ITunes and Amazon. Song of the Day for September 26th, 2010: "Stand Tall" by Dirty Heads

And the song of the day is...Stand Tall by American reggae-rock band Dirty Heads. Dirty Heads consist of members Jared Watson, Dustin "Duddy" Bushnell, Jon Olazabal, Matt Ochoa, and David Foral and they are based out of Huntington Beach, California. Stand Tall came off of their 2008 debut album release titled Any Port in a Storm and it was featured in a Sony Pictures film called Surf's Up. This album would peak at #55 on the US Album Chart in 2008. This band has a laid-back beachy sound, no doubt about that, and yet they also contain some elements of indie rock which makes for an interesting blend, I highly recommend checking out their album.

The Song of the Day for August 13th, 2010: "All For You," by Micah G

And the song is.... All For You, by Hawaiian island-music artist Micah G. Now, I have had one hell of a time trying to locate bio info on Micah G, and still can't seem to find much on him. He has a myspace page HERE. He comes out of Honolulu, Hawaii on the island of Oahu, according to his myspace page, and that is about the lot of it. Now, All For You is a single-release, which just came out last month on July 24th, 2010, so it is still fairly new. Now Youtube still doesn't have this song despite the fact that its almost a month old already, so you will have to go to this link to actually here a sample of it. Otherwise you can listen to and buy it on itunes of amazon at the adjacent link. Check it!

And the song of the day is....

....Whisper, by Hawaiian island music band Maoli. Maoli started up in Maui originally with 14 year old Glenn Awong who started writing and performing his own original music at the encouragement of his high-school music teacher. In 2005 Glenn later formed a band and won a Battle of the Bands contest. In 2008 Maoli released their first full length album titled Groovin. And the "Hot Song of the Day" is....

...10:10, by Australian roots band The Beautiful Girls. The Beautiful Girls have been around since 2000, and have released 6 studio albums and 3 EP's in that time (according to wikipedia). The three current band members are Mat McHugh on vocals and guitar, Paulie B on bass, and Bruce Braybrooke on drums. 10:10 appeared on their Spooks album, which was released in May 2010.  I haven't listened to much of their stuff except this song, which definitely has that reggae-roots vibe to it.

And the Random Old Music Post of the Day is...

...Get Away, by New Zealand roots reggae band Katchafire. Katchafire formed originally in 1997 as a Bob Marley tribute band before they began writing and recording their own songs. The band has had many lineup changes throughout the years, and currently consists of seven members. Get Away comes off of their Revival album (released in 2003) and is full of smooth island reggae. This is a great album to put on during those hot summer days, especially if your at the beach somewhere. I highly recommend checking out the rest of their work, including their latest album. S'all in the game.
