There is no youtube info, and I discovered them on Triple J's Unearthed site, so you will have to go to this link right here in order to read about the band and listen to the song, it has to be done this way I'm afraid. The cool thing about Triple J Unearthed is that they let you download the Mp3 versions of the songs they post for free, as the whole point is to give the artists they represent some following, so Shut Up and Dance!

...Through the Clover, by Aussie sister-band Stonefield (formerly known as Iotah). Stonefield don't have a lot of info on the web about their bio other than they are comprised of 4 sisters who won the Triple J Unearthed High competition in 2010, so fairly recently. Youtube only has a live video of them performing the song, but you can find a free mp3 downloadable version on Triple J's Unearthed site at this link. Enjoy!

The Song of the Day is....

...Beyond All, by Australian indie-latin-rock-ska-jazz-eclectic band The Cat Empire. Now I have personally seen this band live twice and would recommend it. The Cat Empire is a hard band to classify as a genre as they mish-mash so many different musical styles and so many of their songs are different sounding from others, but not to worry, wikipedia just classifies them as "eclectic," so there is even a genre for "no classifiable genre." Directly quoted from wikipedia "Currently, the Cat Empire is composed of Felix Riebl (percussion and vocals), Harry James Angus (trumpet and vocals), Ollie McGill, Ryan Monro (bass and backing vocals), Will Hull-Brown (drums) and Jamshid "Jumps" Khadiwhala (decks, percussion). They are also commonly backed by the Empire Horns, a brass duo, and have recurring guest musicians, (keyboard and backing vocals)." They formed back in 1999 and have released 5 studio albums, and 3 live albums. Beyond All comes off of their June 25th, 2010 new album release titled Cinema. Enjoy!

This song comes off of their EP called Back From the Dead, which was released in March 2010. I am looking forward to their full length album release for sure. Unfortunately youtube doesn't quite have this song, so you have to go to following link to listen to it: SATURN by LAST DINOSAURS. Back From The Dead

And the "Hot Song of the Day" is....

...10:10, by Australian roots band The Beautiful Girls. The Beautiful Girls have been around since 2000, and have released 6 studio albums and 3 EP's in that time (according to wikipedia). The three current band members are Mat McHugh on vocals and guitar, Paulie B on bass, and Bruce Braybrooke on drums. 10:10 appeared on their Spooks album, which was released in May 2010.  I haven't listened to much of their stuff except this song, which definitely has that reggae-roots vibe to it.

And the "Hot New Music" song of the day is....

...Golden Child, by Aussie Electro-Indie band World's End Press. Now I don't have much data or facts on them except their location and origin. This song starts out with a sort of minor-progression but contains all sorts of goodies, especially the keyboard jam towards the end of the song. The Aussies are producing lots of good music these days. Now, there is only a live version of the song on youtube, which is pretty shiite sound quality, but go to their myspace page and listen a decent quality version of the song. The mp3 is still for free on the triple J free mp3's page here.

VJ Samsonite's "Hot New Music" song of the day is....

....Jimmy Recard, by Aussie hip-hop artist Drapht. Yet again, this is not a new song in Australia, in fact it was released back in May of 2008 on the Brothers Grimm album. Why am I posting oldish stuff? Well, because I can, and because its my blog, so there. Moving on...Jimmy Recard is a great song that reminds me of the show Entourage for some reason. Whilst I never really liked Entourage that much I always thought that this Aussie hip-hop song sort of summed up the theme of the show well; that being about  a group of friends trying to make the big-time in Hollywood, some of them achieving success and others not. At least that is what I summed up out of the one or two episodes I've seen, so maybe I am totally off, but the point is I don't give a flying-shart anyways. But seriously someone should make a fan-vid of Entourage using Jimmy Recard, because I probably won't do it ;-( ...Oh yes, getting back to Drapht, he hails at us out of Perth, Australia (a west-coast'a), and he has released three studio albums, so be sure to check them out if you like his work. What it is!

VJ Samsonite's "Hot New Music" song of the day is....

...Walking on a Dream, by Aussie-electronica group Empire of the Sun. Now all of you Aussies are going to tell me this song isn't new, and I admit that to you it is not new at all, but in fact even a bit old-hat already (ie 2 years old). But, to you Yanks, and Canuks it is most likely a new song, as this group gets no radio play and everyone I have played them for has never heard of them, so there! This song is however, an amazing song and deserves this post regardless of how shiny-new it is or not. Walking on a Dream comes off of the same-titled album and was released in October of 2008,  which incidentally also won a platinum award in Oz. Their other big single of this album called We are the People is also a recommendation of mine and may be posted on this vlog at a later date. Empire of the Sun does remind me a bit of MGMT, and would definitely fall into the same genre, but they do put their own unique touch into their songs which makes them stand definitively apart. They are a collaborative project between Pnau Nick Littlemore and Luke Steele from The Sleepy Jackson. Eat some Ham Tina!

VJ Samsonite's "Hot New Music" song of the day is....

...Hurt Me, by Aussie-Indie group The Jezabels. The Jezabels are a four-piece group, and they formed after meeting at the University of Sydney (that's my old Uni!, woot woot!). They are fairly new group and have thus far only released two EPs, the first titled The Man is Dead (released in February 2009), and the second titled She's So Hard (released in November of 2009). Hurt Me is the first single coming off of She's So Hard, and features some keyboard/piano parts along with ambient guitar bits by Samuel Lockwood, and with seductive vocals by Hayley Mary. Do enjoy this one, its a little dark, but it is one of those songs that will grow on you. Check it!
