Song of the Day for October 20th, 2010: "Lions In Cages" by Wolf Gang
The song is....Lions In Cages by English musician Wolf Gang. Wolf Gang is the stage name for musician Max McElligott from London, UK. He is the son of a historian and violinist, as well as having graduated from the London School of Economics. Wolf Gang, as you may have noticed also adds a unique artistic twist to his music videos and to his stage persona, and he hasn't received much play in the USA as far as I can tell, but he definitely has some great talent and melodies, and that is sort of the purpose of this website after all, to put some new refreshing energy out there for people to have access to (stuff one might not hear, or perhaps will hear, on the top 50 radio stations in their particular locale). For more info on Wolf Gang check out his website here, or his myspace page here.

And the "Hot New Music" song of the day is....
...You've Changed, by Australian singer/songwriter Sia (short for Sia Furler). Sia arises out of Adelaide in South Australia, and has been classified by wikipedia as an acid-jazz/pop/trip-hop artist, so she must have quite a range. I personally am not that familiar with her work, but she has also worked with other acts, such as Zero 7 which would classify her in the trippy genre for sure. She has produced 3 studio albums and You've Changed comes off of her We Are Born album, just released this month of June 2010..now where can I get myself one of them panda hats??

#87 of VJ Samsonite's Top 100 80's Dance Hits Countdown!
Welcome back to VJ Samsonite's top 100 80's Dance Hits Countdown! Today we are presenting #87 of the top 100 countdown! And the song is...No More Words, by U.S. 80's new wave synth-pop band Berlin. Little did I know, but Berlin formed in the late 1970's and are actually from Orange County, California of all places. I don't know, maybe its their name, but for some reason I have a hard time thinking of them as being from California. Moving on, according to wikipedia there are 4 current members (Teri Nunn is the blond lead singer), and it lists about 10 former band members who were in and out of the band over the years. The core band members of the band are considered to be Teri Nunn, John Crawford , and David Diamond. Nunn left the band temporarily to pursue an acting career at one point and actually auditioned for the part of Princess Leia in the Star Wars films. Wikipedia also lists Berlin as having an inactive period between 1987 and 1998. Berlin are obviously a better known band from the 80's, and have had many hits over the years. No More Words was released in 1984 on their Love Life album, the song reached #23 on the US singles charts that year, whilst Love Life, reached #28 on the US album charts that year. Enough data, and lets get on with the song...

VJ Samsonite's "Hot New Music" song of the day is....
...Sometimes, by Aussie electro-pop group Miami Horror. Miami Horror hails at us out of Melbourne, Australia (an amazing city with heaps of amazing new artists I might add). This band does an excellent job of sticking to the groovy synth-blips and beats (so characteristic of the electro-genre) along with occasional vocals, although many of their songs don't include much in the vocal department. Miami Horror has an LP coming out this year (TBA), and have released an EP in 2008 called Bravado. Sometimes is a single which was released in 2009. They have collaborated with another Melbourne electro-pop group called Gameboy/Gamegirl and have produced a collaborative EP with them as well called Golden Ghetto Sex. Without further ado, da song...o

Telephone by Lady Gaga surpasses 1 billion Views!
Well, I figured that if a music video can catch the attention of 1/6th of the world's total population or round-abouts that number, then I should probably post it here. Check it!

VJ Samsonite's "Hot New Music" song of the day is....
...Saturday Night, by Aussie artist Matt Van Schie (pronounced Matt Van Ski). Matt Van Schie is also the vocals/bass in Sydney electro-pop band Van She who were formed in 2005 (and whom I would also highly recommend everyone give a listen to). This song reminds me of many old 80's synth-pop songs but holds its own elements in this new wave of electro-pop which is upon now upon us. Perhaps I will have to post some Van She in the future, although much of their music is about 4-5 yrs old already, my how the time flies!

VJ Samsonite's "Hot New Music" song of the day is....
..."Flippers," by Aussie electro-pop band Art Vs. Science. Now, this song was on the Triple J Hottest 100 of 2008, so it is not super-new or anything, but it was good enough to mention here, and this is my vlog, so there! Art Vs. Science are from Sydney Australia (lots of cool new bands coming out of Sydney and Melbourne these days) where the Sun always shines and the beer flows like wine. This song has an awesome beat, and the whole flippers theme reminds me of Aussie's diving and the Great Barrier Reef with their flippers masks and air-tanks, whether its meant to or not, that is the theme of the song after all. I was watching a movie at a cinema in Melbourne a few months ago, and I also saw this song featured on an anti-gambling advert, which was actually quite clever "Pokies" TV spot | Problem Gambling. They have been nominated for some awards (can't be bothered to look it all up right now) and their song "Parlez Vous Francais," was ranked number 2 on the Triple J Hottest 100 of 2009. The video posted here is a live versio of "Flippers" as I couldn't locate the actual music video on youtube. Check it:

VJ Samsonite's New Music Song of the Day is.....
Today, I bring you a newcomer to electro-pop/synth-pop, who is really making an smashing impression and adding her own unique touch to it all. Today's Song is "Bulletproof," by U.K. artist La Roux, which comes off of her debut self-titled album (released in June of 2009). La Roux, means "the read-head" in french for all of those who don't already know. I love La Roux's sound because it harkens right back to one of my favourite musical era's, the 1980's, and no doubt she has been compared to many of the new-wave artists already. I was delighted and surprised to actually hear a mainstream radio station here in the USA playing this song the other day, which means that she really has made it big (as the radio-stations here, generally all owned by the same company) tend to play the same loops over and over again, and if your stuff isn't on the loop then it generally doesn't hit the airwaves here. Bulletproof is the song of many ex-girlfriends no doubt, but there is one in particular that comes to my mind when I hear this song, and thus it has that personal appeal to me I suppose. Excuse the advert at the beginning, so typical of youtube to disable the embedding abilities, and thus for some ludicrous reason, and thus I had to use this one as last resort). The video is great stuff, and reminds me so much of the old Eurythmics 80's music videos, in fact that is where I reckon the idea came from but I could be wrong. So without further ado here is Bulletproof:
