A Brief Review for 'Paths of Glory' (1957)

Movie = Paths of Glory (1957)
Director = Stanley Kubrick
5/5 Stars *****
This movie is one to watch, although it is not for the light-hearted as it is a war-movie. Kubrick does a brilliant job showing us another side of war not often talked about or shown in movies, and by that I mean the internal politics that ravages the very structure of the military itself. Like all human organizations, when the big egos clash their is a price to pay and it is usually in the form of sacrifice by the lower-ranking infantry. Of course the powerful do this all in the petty search of their own egoic and short-lived personal glory. I must disagree to those critics (most of them) who say it is an anti-war film, it is a war-film, and it depicts situations of war that are not uncommon, so if having a hint of realism means a war-movie is anti-war then maybe they are right. I won't say any more here, other than that Kirk Douglas and George Macready both do an excellent job in their roles and so cheers to them both. Good one to watch for sure.

Brief Movie Review for "The Black Balloon" (2008)

**** 4/5 Stars
A Good Aussie film and definitely not your run of the mill formula flick. It relates to the challenges of autism and its really about families and how they manage through situations that aren't always easy. I would recommend this movie, its one that might just make you think critically a little bit, and god-forbid that ever happen! However, I wouldn't watch it again, more of a serious film and not really one for just entertainment. I still don't know what the title is about, did I miss the black balloon part?

Brief Movie Review for "City Island" (2010)

3/5 Stars ***

Una peli divertida, claro! Was a funny comedy and was produced well. Is about a family who keeps lots of secrets and interesting personality perks from each other, which inevitably unravel and the comical situations this puts the characters in makes the movie worthwhile and not serious. I recommend this movie for a good laugh, and I looked it up on the map, City Island aye??

Brief Movie Review: "Triage" (2009)

 4/5 Stars

Another realistic movie, this time about War and Post-Traumatic-Stress-Disorder, or as George Carlin so aptly reminds us that the more appropriate and less watered-down term is "Shell-Shock." All those people who worship/idolize the military and wars so much would do well to be exposed to the not-so-glorious side to wars and conflict. The landmine scene was horrific, and of course the triage scenes leave their mark.
