A Brief Movie Review for 'White On Rice' (2009)
Movie = White On Rice (2009)
Director = Dave Boyle
Rating = 3.5/5 Stars ***White On Rice was refreshing for me to watch just because it is actually different from the typical formulas. The movie revolves around hyperactive (almost ADD) Jimmy, a Japanese expat living in America (as well as an ex-movie-actor out of work) with his sister and her family whom he manages to drive up the wall on a regular basis. You don't see many English movies (although not all of this is in English) about Asian-American families, and that is really what made this movie entertaining and interesting for me. I would watch it a second time.

Now They Call Them Oldies = 'Homeward Bound' by Simon and Garfunkel (1966)
Part 1 of this week's so-called oldies goes to Simon and Garfunkel and their 1966 hit song Homeward Bound. The American duo of Simon and Garfunkel debuted way back in 1957 and originated out of Forest Hills, Queens, New York City, NY, USA. Homeward Bound comes off of their 1966 album titled Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme, and upon its release it would peak at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. According to the wikipedia page, Paul Simon wrote this song whilst stranded overnight at a train station in NW England out of his desire to return home to NYC and his life there. Paul Simon fans no doubt are already well aware, but for all those who aren't already aware, Simon's newest album is set to be released on April 12th, 2011 and if you want more information on that you can visit his website HERE. As for the video below, only a live-tv version was available for embedding on youtube, and so there it is.
A Brief Movie Review for 'Adrift In Manhattan' (2007)
Movie = Adrift In Manhattan (2007)
Director = Alfredo De Villa
Rating = 2.5/5 Stars **This is a film worth watching about a group of New Yorkers whose lives unknowingly become intertwined. The individual stories of each of the characters makes the movie a slow one, but it is interesting and a little weird too, but I suppose that is more like real life in a way. It is not the most entertaining movie to watch, so just be prepared for a slow and awkwardone if you sit down with it. I wouldn't watch it a second time.

A Brief Movie Review for 'Tom Jones' (1963)
Movie = Tom Jones (1963)
Director = Tony Richardson
Rating = 3/5 Stars ***I was surprised that this movie won the best picture in 1963 as it seems altogether too goofy to be taken seriously as a contender for the Oscar, but apparently it did. Tom Jones is the bastard child adopted by a wealthy English-noble (or so we are led to believe) who womanizes and causes lots of trouble amongst the drunken-noble class of the 1700's English countryside. Lots of humor for a change, which I must say is a relief as so many of the modern-day movies are ultra-serious and this one is anything but a stone-faced movie. Good fun.

Feature Song of the Day = 'All Of This' by The Naked and Famous (2010)
Today's features song is All Of This by 5-piece Kiwi-indie-rock band The Naked and Famous. The Naked and Famous has been around on the music scene since 2008, are based out of Auckland New Zealand, and consists of members David Beadle, Thom Powers, Aaron Short, Jesse Wood, and Alisa Xayalith. They released their first album titled Passive Me, Agressive You on September 6th, 2010 and this song can be found their as track 1. All Of This was actually the first single to be released off of this album, although I don't think it is quite as good as the other two, but it still has something to it that makes it stand out. Enjoy!

Brief Movie Review for 'Glengarry Glen Ross' (1992)
Movie = Glengarry Glen Ross (1992)
Director = James Foley
Rating = 2.5/5 Stars ** An ok movie, lots of loud arguing and hustling going on which makes it entertaining to say the least. This movie has an all-star cast of actors (including Kevin Spacey, Ed Harris, Al Pacino, Alan Arkin, Jack Lemmon) who play struggling real-estate salesmen in the early 90's (clearly before the 90's real estate and dotcom booms happened) who are all about to lose their jobs. The movie does a great job of exposing the fact that when working in sales it doesn't matter if you even make a sale that will go through, as long as the numbers look good at the end of the day and you've hustled at least one person out of their livelihood its all good. All-star cast and the dialogue make it worth watching at least once. Lets imagine another boom coming, hey, it happened in the 90's right?
