Under Neon Movie Reviews: 'Holiday' (1938)

Movie: Holiday
Year: 1938
My Rating: 7.2/10 Stars *******'
Another classic for sure, Cary Grant plays an ordinary guy who has fallen in love with a very wealthy girl. In the process of meeting the family he finds himself being shaken down by the father as to whether he is worthy of his daughter and of course the suspicion that comes when one courts outside of their caste. He also happens to fall in love with the other sister in the process (K. Hepburn). Check it out, like I said, a classic.

Akhu's Documentary Reviews: 'Helvetica' (2007)

Movie: Helvetica
Year: 2007
My Rating: 8.7/10 Stars ********

An interesting documentary about the font you see everywhere and probably don't even notice. Helvetica font is the most-used font in the world, and this doco is all about it, sounds boring, but is actually quite interesting and informative. Especially interesting if you are into typography and graphic design at all.

Ahku's Movies Reviews: 'The Apartment' (1960)

Another great Lemmon/MacLaine flick, also stars Fred MacMurray. Single-working Lemmon's apartment becomes the party-place for all of his bosses above him, who in exchange promise to promote him at his high-rise/big city job. Lots of laughs and funny situations, check it out, one of my favorites, and a Best Picture Oscar winner too.

Akhu's Movie Reviews: 'Paul' (2011)

Movie: Paul
This was actually funny, although the main comical effect in the movie is the colorful use of cuss-words. I don't know how I could doubt a Pegg-Frost duo movie, but I must admit I had my doubts after seeing the preview. Paul is an ET on the run from the government, and he hitches a ride with 2 unwitting British UFO enthusiasts (Pegg and Frost). Check it out, it actually is funny and worth watching once.

Ahhu's Movie Reviews: 'Tree of Life' (2011)

Not what I expected, but I suppose that is the normal response for most who watch it. Great cinematography with lots of dream-like scenes, starring Brad Pitt and Sean Penn. Do not expect a normal movie here, it is anything but formulaic, but it is good in its own right. Hard to follow at times, and you may get lost as in a dream, but it seems to have something to do with nostalgic memories, human relationships, and heaven and the potential of an afterlife?? Gets me! Check it out if you are feeling adventurous.

Akhu's Movie Reviews: 'The Monster Squad' (1987)

Movie: The Monster Squad
Year: 1987
My Rating: 8/10 Stars ********
Oh hells yeah! A truly under-rated 80s movie, although target audience is young teens. A group of classic monsters including the Frankenstein monster, Gill-man, wolf-man, and mummy, lead by the infamous Count Dracula attempt to make the evil forces permanent on Earth, but a group of young teens (aka the Monster Squad) are out to stop them. Really not quality, but thats really not what we are looking for here is it. If you like classic 80s kid adventure movies like The Goonies, you will dig The Monster Squad
