Song of the Day = 'Let's Go Surfing' by The Drums
Today's feature song is....Lets Go Surfing by American indie-pop group The Drums. The The Drums originate out of Brooklyn, New York and consists of members Jonathan Pierce (vocals), Jacob Graham (guitar), Connor Hanwick (drums). This track, like the last one I posted comes off of their self-titled debut album which was released on June 7th, 2010. Let's Go Surfing was the third single to be released off of their debut self-titled album. This song was originally released in September 2009 on their EP titled Summertime!, but was later released on the June 2010 debut-studio album, and then it was released as an actual single in August 2010. This song charted at #63 on the UK Singles, but surprisingly haven't appeared on the US charts??? Apparently, The Drums are better known in the UK than they are in the USA, and that seems to be more of a target market for them, so I guess I am taking it on as partly my mission here to introduce/plug their work to an American/Australian/global audience, so I hope you enjoy this song, and do be sure to check out the 2 previous song posts I've done on The Drums. Oh yeah, and Happy New Year everybody!!

#48 of VJ Samsonite's Top 100 80's Dance Hits Countdown! Beastie Boys: Fight For Your Right (1986)
Hello again, straight to it, #48 is...."Fight For Your Right" by American hip-hop group Beastie Boys. It would be surprising if you didn't know who the Beastie Boys are, they have practically become a household name over the years, and have produced prolific and solid repertoire. They came out of Brooklyn, New York in 1979 and comprised of members Michael "Mike D" Diamond, Adam "MCA" Yauch, and Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz. You might not know this (I didn't before doing a little research for this) but they started out as a hardcore punk group, and didn't make the full transition to hip-hop until 1984. They are said to be one of the longest living hip-hop acts in the world and continue to enjoy success 20 years onwards. According to wikipedia they have been nominated for induction into the 'Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.' "Fight For Your Right" was the first single release from their major breakthrough album "Licensed to Ill" which was released in 1986. It peaked at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100, and it was also named as one of 'The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll.' Well, there is #48, on to 47!

And the "Hot New Music" song of the day is....
...Two Weeks, by American folk-rock group Grizzly Bear. Grizzly Bear are based out of Brooklyn, New York and consist of Edward Droste (vocals, guitar, omnichord, keyboard), Daniel Rossen (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Chris Taylor (bass, backing vocals, various instruments, producer) and Christopher Bear (drums, backing vocals). Two Weeks is a single, and was released in May 2009. I've been randomly selecting songs from my playlist so hopefully you are all enjoying some of this stuff and getting some stuff you may not have otherwise heard. I have been making the little bio's (which are just summaries from Wikipedia really) shorter and shorter as I really don't find the details all that interesting, so I might just start doing the very basics like I did on this post. All though I will try to add a bit more info for the 80's posts, as they are tend to have a bit more history to them by nature. Enjoy!
