And the "Hot New Music" song of the day is....
...Put It On Wax, by Aussie hip-hop artist Ozi Batla. Ozi Batla is also known as a member of Aussie hip-hop group The Herd (of whom I have posted a song for in the last few months). I don't have too much info on Ozi, but he is from Sydney and this song is pretty good, it was released in April 2010. Check out his myspace page here for more info. I just watched this video for the first time and realised that it was filmed in Carlton Gardens, right through the area I used to walk to work every morning, strange, its a small world I guess. Enjoy!

And the "Hot New Music" song of the day is....
...Shadow People, by US indie rock band Dr Dog. Dr Dog are based out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and consists of Toby Leaman (bass), Scott McMicken (lead guitar), Frank McElroy (rhythm guitar), Zach Miller (keyboard), and Eric Slick (drums). Shadow People comes off of their Shame Shame album, which was just released in April, 2010. I don't have too much to say about them as I don't really know that much, so as always look them up on wikipedia or allmusic or one of the those internet databases. All though I would point out something rather obvious and that is that I reckon that they just took Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg and combined their names to get Dr Dog (but just one "g" as opposed to two). Oh, and yipee to me for actually posting a US band, note that I do have others in mind but just haven't posted them yet, so perhaps I should, but I reckon a mix of new artists from different locales is best. Keep it real peeps!

And the "Hot New Music" song of the day is....
...Don't Be on With Her, by by Aussie electro-pop group Miami Horror. Miami Horror are based in Melbourne Australia, and Don't Be on With Her comes off of their Bravado EP. I have made a previous post of another song of theirs so look to it for further info, or try wikipedia. Also, note how well they have captured the 80's feel, they even got the film style down to the 80's/70's visual themes and styles, not to mention the synth. Enjoy!

And the "Hot New Music" song of the day is....
...Sticks 'N' Stones, by English indie-post-punk-revival singer/songwriter Jamie T. His full name is Jamie Alexander Treays (Jamie T for short), and he's from Wimbledon, South London, England. He has worked with the Ordinary Boys and in 2007 he won Best Solo Artist at the 2007 Shockwave NME Awards, apparently beating out Thom Yorke (of Radiohead) and Jarvis Cocker (of Pulp). Sticks N Stones appeared on his Kings and Queens album, reaching #15 on the UK Singles Charts. It was originally released in June of 2009. Now, like so many other music videos Youtube has disabled the music video from being embedded into other web pages, so go to youtube to see the actual music video. Cheers!

#86 of VJ Samsonite's Top 100 80's Dance Hits Countdown!
Welcome back to VJ Samsonite's top 100 80's Dance Hits Countdown! Today we are presenting #86 of the top 100 countdown! And the song is...The Promise, by British new-wave trio When In Rome. Now this is one of the rare times when I will actually recommend the Razormaid mix of this song for dance party purposes, but for all else the original 12'' mix will do. When In Rome essentially were a one-hit-wonder (with this very song) consisting of vocalists Clive Farrington and Andrew Mann, along with keyboards player Michael Floreale. This song was released in 1988, it was their first single release from their self-titled album which peaked at #11 on the US charts. However, I should also mention they had another song which reached #90 (not quite my def. of a 2nd hit, but close) titled Heaven Knows. Many of you youngsters probably only know this song because it was on the Napoleon Dynamite soundtrack, and closing credits in 2004 (much the same way the young generation seems to think that Wham!'s Wake Me Up Before You Go Go was made for the Zoolander soundtrack, but actually it existed many years prior to that in a little decade we elders like to refer to as the 80's). Enough said, enjoy the song, and stay tuned for #85!
And the "Hot New Music" song of the day is....
...Cement, by Aussie musician and songwriter Megan Washington. Megan Washington was born in Papua New Guinea, then moved to Brisbane during her teenage years, and now currently is based in Melbourne, Australia. She sings, plays piano and guitar. This song comes off of her How To Tame Lions EP, (released in September 2009). Not much else to say, other than I've been a bit slack on the daily posts, but I really do have heaps of new music to post so I should probably stick to it. The video is a bit annoying as youtube only has live versions of the song, so be it.

And the "Hot New Music" song of the day is....
...One Horse Town, by Irish indie rock band The Thrills. The Thrills formed in the mid 1990's in Dublin, Ireland and they consist of lead vocalist Conor Deasy, guitarist Daniel Ryan, guitarist and bass player Padraic McMahon, pianist Kevin Horan and drummer Ben Carrigan. The Thrills certainly have a unique sound, and One Horse Town comes off of their So Much for the City album (released in May of 2003), which makes this a not so new song or album (7 years old already!), so it is definitely not a new song, but it might be new to you. Definitely check out the rest of the album and enjoy The Thrills.

VJ Samsonite's "Hot New Music" song of the day is....
...Skeleton Tiger, by Aussie psychedelic rock band Tame Impala. Tame Impala is made up of Kevin Parker (lead guitar and vocals), Dominic Simper (bass guitar) and Jay Watson (drums and backing vocals), and they come out of Perth, WA. Their name refers to the impala, a medium sized antelope. They've won a few awards, and are reminiscent of a few bands like the Doors, the Grateful Dead, the Association, etc. I like their style anyway, so be sure to check them out for yourself. This song, and three others off their EP (released in 2008) went to number one on the Australian Independent Record Labels chart, see wikipedia for more info.

#87 of VJ Samsonite's Top 100 80's Dance Hits Countdown!
Welcome back to VJ Samsonite's top 100 80's Dance Hits Countdown! Today we are presenting #87 of the top 100 countdown! And the song is...No More Words, by U.S. 80's new wave synth-pop band Berlin. Little did I know, but Berlin formed in the late 1970's and are actually from Orange County, California of all places. I don't know, maybe its their name, but for some reason I have a hard time thinking of them as being from California. Moving on, according to wikipedia there are 4 current members (Teri Nunn is the blond lead singer), and it lists about 10 former band members who were in and out of the band over the years. The core band members of the band are considered to be Teri Nunn, John Crawford , and David Diamond. Nunn left the band temporarily to pursue an acting career at one point and actually auditioned for the part of Princess Leia in the Star Wars films. Wikipedia also lists Berlin as having an inactive period between 1987 and 1998. Berlin are obviously a better known band from the 80's, and have had many hits over the years. No More Words was released in 1984 on their Love Life album, the song reached #23 on the US singles charts that year, whilst Love Life, reached #28 on the US album charts that year. Enough data, and lets get on with the song...
VJ Samsonite's "Hot New Music" song of the day is....
Journey, by Aussie electro artist Matt Van Schie. Matt Van Schie also does vocals and bass guitar for the electro band Van She. This song comes off of his solo album titled Balmy Nights, which was released in 2010.

VJ Samsonite's "Hot New Music" song of the day is....
...Embrace, by Australian dance duo Pnau. This song really isn't that new (2 frickin yrs old all-bloody-ready), but I guess they start to fall behind a lot when I am only doing "one a day," and time just passes that quickly. Pnau are from Sydney, and consist of Nick Littlemore and Peter Mayes. This song reached #12 on the Triple J Hottest 100 in 2008, and it features vocals by New Zealand artist Ladyhawke. Could write a lot more but don't fell like it at the moment so enjoy the song, you may be familiar with it.

First she was in Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles, and had a few minor sucesses, and then LaBelle which received acclaim for their big-time hit in 1974 titled "Lady Marmalade."
