A Brief Movie Review for 'King of Hearts' (1966)
Movie = King Of Hearts (1966)
Director = Philippe de Broca
Rating = 2.5/5 Stars **'
This was a bit of a silly movie really, though it seems to carry with it the message that our everyday so-called "real-world" is even crazier if not equally as crazy as the world of an insane asylum. The conclusion of the film really illustrates this well, that an insane asylum is much preferable to fighting in the trenches of WWI (aka Hell on Earth). If you can handle the Fellini-esque aspects of this film you should watch it, but it is a bit hard to take after about the first 30 minutes or so. I wouldn't watch it a second time. Now They Call Them Classics (Weekly): 'With A Girl Like You' by The Troggs (1966)
So I've changed the title from "oldies" to "classics" as I felt the former was too limiting. So this week's Now They Call Them Classics goes to another English rock band from the 1960's called The Troggs and their 1966 hit classic song With A Girl Like You. The Troggs were formed in 1964 out of Andover, Hampshire, England and signed by the manager of The Kinks, and according to Wikipedia the band members are Reg Presley (vocals), Dave Wright (guitar), Chris Britton (guitar), Richard Moore (vocals and guitar), Pete Staples (bass guitar), Ronnie Bond (drums), and Tony Murray (bass guitar). With A Girl Like You was a single released by the Troggs in 1966 and which reached #1 on the UK Singles Chart that year. There have been many cover versions of this song, and it has also appeared on a few film soundtracks so check that out if your keen.
A Brief Movie Review for Lianna (1983)
Movie = Lianna (1983)
Director = John Sayles
Rating = 2.5/5 Stars **'Lianna (1983) is one of director John Sayles's first movies, and it is about a middle-aged married woman with two kids who falls in love with one of her female professors and realizes that she too is actually a lesbian. The story deals with her leaving her husband (who is also a college professor) and the difficulties she has with trying to fit back in to a society that looks down on her and her sexual identity. This one is worth watching at least once, although the quality of acting is not too great, but the social issues and how people deal with them makes the story watchable. Youtube doesn't seem to have the movie trailer so head over to imdb.com HERE for more info and movie reviews.

This issue of The Last Days of House features Australian dance/house group Sneaky Sound System and their 2006 single Pictures (Tonite Only Remix). Now the house songs features in The Last Days of House are you going to be all over the board, some new, some old, some really old, so expect that, and if you have known about these songs for years, great, and if not, brilliant! That said, Sneaky Sound System are a Sydney-based trio consisting of Black Angus (Angus McDonald) (songwriter, producer), Connie Mitchell (vocalist and songwriter), and MC Double D (Daimon Downey) who actually left the group in 2009, but was still in it when this song was released. A Brief Movie Review for 'Flirting" (1991)
Movie = Flirting (1991)
Director = John Duigan
Rating = 4/5 Stars ****This movie was better than I expected, with some early work for Australian stars Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts as well as British actors Thandie Newton and Noah Taylor. Is a story about some Australian schoolies who are trying to make it through late adolescence while under the strict supervision and atmosphere of their Australian prep/boarding-school. The characters are interesting and its not too much of a teen-movie like it sounds, and the trailer below makes it sound like a big teen-sex movie or something, which is a bit misleading. This movie is worth watching and I will probably watch it a second time some day in the future.
