Song of the Day for September 28th, 2010: "Our Song (feat. Seth Sentry)" by Horrorshow

And the song of the day is....Our Song (feat. Seth Sentry) by Australian hip-hop duo Horrorshow. Horrorshow consists of duo Adit Gauchan (a.k.a. Adit) (DJ), and
Nick Bryant-Smith (a.k.a. Solo) (as emcee) who have been around since 2006 and come out of sunny Sydney, Australia. Both of these members grew up in the inner-west suburbs of Sydney and began their hip-hop careers at the age of 19. They have released two full-length albums in the past and have been releasing a few new singles here and there as well, in fact this song is still available as a free mp3 download as well as at least one other Horrorshow track at this link.  Also if you have a facebook account they have some free downloads and artist info on their page there, which I would highly recommend. Check them out, and enjoy yourself some great Aussie hip-hop!

VJ Samsonite's "Hot New Music" song of the day is....

...The Festival Song, by Aussie Hip Hop MC Pez (feat. 360 & Hailey Cramer). Pez (Perry Chapman) is from Melbourne, Australia and has released 4 albums between 2006-2009. The Festival Song was released as a single in 2008 and reached #53 on the Australian music charts. This song may not make much sense to those who are not Australian or who haven't been around the "Music Festival" culture that exists there. Pez refers to many different festivals (their is in fact one called Summer Dayz) that occur in Victoria in the Summertime (which is December-February in the Southern Hemisphere), although there are dozens that occur throughout Australia during the year. Amongst these festivals are Parklife, Homebake, V Festival, The Big Day Out, Splendour in the Grass, Soundwave, Falls Festival, Meredith Music Festival, Pyramid Rock Festival, and on and on....the fact is that despite having a total population of about 22.3 million people (that's 15 million fewer people than the state of California alone) Australia sure has its fair share of music festivals every year. If you want to see a fuller list of all them look here. Essentially that is what this song is about, the Aussie festival culture in all its glory. Straight Postin'!

VJ Samsonite's "Hot New Music" song of the day is....

...Chase That Feeling, by Aussie Hip-Hop group the Hilltop Hoods. The Hilltop Hoods hail at us out of Adelaide, Australia. They are ARIA Award winners, and have been on top of the Aussie Hip-Hop scene since the early 1990's. Now I really like this groups style and sound, they have a unique hip-hop style that adds a bit of "flava" to their music, along with the foreign accent makes it flow. Chase that Feeling comes off of their State of the Art album (released in June 2009). For those who have never heard of them definitely check out their other stuff, they have released 5 studio albums so they have been a prolific group. I personally would also like to recommend their past album which made them big in Oz  titled The Calling (released in 2003), which features their two past hit singles The Nosebleed Section, and Dumb Enough. Check it!

VJ Samsonite's "Hot New Music" song of the day is....

...Enter Galactic (Love Connection Part I), by U.S. rapper, singer, and actor Kid CuDi (who hails out of Cleveland, Ohio). Enter Galactic comes off of CuDi's 2009 release album titled,  Man on the Moon: The End of the Day. Kid CuDi seems to me to fall into a similar vein as U.K. rapper Dizzee Rascal as he blends his rap with synth-beats and blips that make a wonderful blend of synth-rap or synth-hop??? Is that a genre, why not? We seem to create new music genres and terms every day, that way we can put each artist and song into a neat little box and call it whatever we so desire. But music isn't that simple is it? Anyways, Kid CuDi is not that well known in the U.S. for some reason despite being a clear leader and artist in this genre. In fact I don't understand why this isn't on the radio here in the U.S.A., but again my conclusion is that it falls back onto the fact that most radio stations here are all owned by the same people, and they pick and choose the same repetitive loops to play and if great artists like Kid CuDi (or Dizzee Rascal for that matter) don't make their cut then they just don't get played. This is a shame, because there is so much great new music out there that just isn't getting hardly any airtime, and that is partly what inspired me to do these New Music posts on this blog, in the hopes of giving further exposure to  these new music and artists, and to increase their circulation a bit and get on the airwaves. Whether that happens or not is up to those few in the end. Oh well, I believe I've ranted on just about enough there, asi que, sin más, aqui esta Kid CuDi.....
